Monday Morning

March 21, 2011

For Today… March 21, 2011

Outside my window… Gray and violent bursts of rain swirled with tornado-like gusts of wind. Brings to mind Winnie-the-Pooh's "blustery day". Quite the abrupt change after a warm week full of sunshine.

I am thinking… I know it's time to get back to work after a week off…..does anyone else ever feel like they need a break after the break before they get back to normal?

From the learning rooms… Making our way towards that exciting part of the year where subjects start to get finished off and the daily load of work slowly diminishes.

I'm thankful for… a relaxing, fun, and productive spring break….with beautiful weather and no sickness. A gift that blew away all of my pessimistic expectations. :)

From the kitchen… kitchen? What's that? I know, I'm terrible. Honestly, more urgent on the list than any food, a deep cleaning is really needed in my kitchen. It always takes awhile for me to work up the motivation for this enormous task.

I am wearing… a sweater and flannel pj pants.  Three days ago I was in a tank top and shorts….welcome to spring in our town!

I am reading… I have been instructed by Hombre to read this. Hopefully I can get around to that soon!

I am creating… right now my creativity has been directed outside. Visualizing landscape options and garden options. We've purchased all our supplies to create this; now we just need our nice spring weather to return so we can do it.

I am hearing… good old PBS kids. Of course. The only way I get a few quiet moments in the morning.

Around the house… Last week, in order to feel like I was getting a break too, I forced myself to refrain from any housework other than bare maintenance. So here I am with a completely picked up and "tidy" house….but it's covered in dust and needs a vacuum and mop to make it sparkle again. Back to work. :)

A few plans for the rest of the week… I'm sure there are plans, but I refuse to think about them now. Practicing the art of focusing on now. Something I and my girls (a product of maternal influence I'm sure) are not very good at.

Wednesday Morning

February 16, 2011

For Today… February 16,2011

Outside my window… A different kind of cold morning. The kind that seems to hold a glimpse of warm mornings to come.

I am thinking… we are halfway through a ten day stretch of insane busyness. Trying to decide what's most needful on day one of my only two days to catch up.

From the learning rooms.. Valentine's Break! Wait, isn't that real? Well, my kids are getting a week off for the sake of all of our sanity. Don't worry, we doubled up last week to compensate. I'm really excited that when we get back to school next week all of our science for the rest of the year revolves around insects. Seems very fitting for spring.

I'm thankful for… home.

From the kitchen… we've got a birthday coming on Friday and I've received a request for a "paint cake". Thinking I might try something like this.

I am wearing… pajamas. I haven't had time to sit around in pajamas for almost a week. I really needed that today.

I am reading… The Call of the Wild. I'll save my praises until I've finished it….maybe by then I'll actually have some.

I am creating… a new crown for the birthday girl. I thought that an almost nine year old might decide she was too old for a crown. But she didn't, and of course I'm thrilled.

I am hearing… Caillou. You might be thinking that is the most annoying thing possible to hear in the morning. But it's not true. An hour ago I was hearing Barney, and that is by far much more annoying!

Around the house… Catching up on laundry, making a grocery list for the big birthday party. Figuring out what to do with the excess of hearts scattered throughout the house (thinking maybe they should just count as birthday decor).

A few plans for the rest of the week… catch up today, party prep tomorrow, birthday girl's day out on Friday, party Friday night, off to winter camp for three days with Hombre on Saturday. PLEASE pray we can all stay healthy until Monday!

Monday Afternoon

January 10, 2011

For Today… January 10,2011

Outside my window… Blue skies and a warm sun. (as we all know, my favorite :) )

I am thinking… it's been so long since I've posted with any kind of consistency that I don't even know where to begin! Maybe that's a good thing? Maybe I was stuck in a rut before.

From the learning rooms…the routine of daily lessons has been a breath of fresh air after a month off. The break was good…long enough that I had time to get excited about school again.

I'm thankful for… a body that's strong and can do hard work. Something I definitely don't want to take for granted.

From the kitchen… well, our life has been revolutionized by the surprise gift of a dishwasher! The kitchen is now clean 95% of the time (as opposed to probably 30-40% before). And even if it's not clean, it can be clean in ten minutes or less. I thought I would miss the handwashing of my dishes more, but so far….haven't missed it a bit.

I am wearing… clothes that are not worth discussing. That's all there is to it.

I am reading… Little Women. Can't even begin to describe the depths of my affection for this story!

I am creating… nothing. But I'm seriously organizing my craft & sewing supplies. That should pave the way to creativity, right?

I am hearing… the fan on my laptop. I think it's getting a little louder than what is acceptable….hmmm.

Around the house… Working on a better morning routine. After getting back into school, I've decided that it would be ideal for us to start school at 8:00 am. So far the earliest we've managed is 8:45. Of course the girls are out of bed before sunrise, so really the problem lies with me and my lack of desire to start my day in the dark! I'm working on it. :)

A few plans for the rest of the week… dinner and football with friends tonight. Looking forward to that.

Miss A is participating in her first spelling bee on Friday, so we're studying hard and getting excited for that.

Wednesday Morning

September 8, 2010

For Today… September 8,2010

Outside my window… sun…rain…sun…rain…our weather is very indecisive these days.

I am thinking… how is it possible to sleep so well and STILL feel tired when I wake up???

From the learning rooms…we're finding our way to a good routine. It's taken a little time, but most days we're making it through school without any tears…yay!

I'm thankful for… my home and all the comforts it holds.

From the kitchen… I'm watching the pumpkins in the garden turn a deep shade of orange and dreaming of the possibilities … pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin roll, pumpkin granola…

I am wearing… a silvery-whitish shade of polish on my toes. Isn't the rule no white after Labor Day? Whoops!

I am reading… Heidi. It was my turn to pick for book club. I'm really excited about it because my girls and I are reading it together.

I am creating… plans for one spectacularly fancy party.

I am hearing… little girl chatter…they always wake up so much more energetic than me. It doesn't seem quite fair.

Around the house… I've been in an organizing frenzy. A lot of work, but it's making me feel like we have so much more space, which is always a good thing.

A few plans for the rest of the week… our small group from church is starting up again this week. Looking forward to getting to know some new people. :)
