Words of a kindred spirit…
"…there is no use in trying to engraft an opposite nature on one's own. What I am, that I must be, except as God changes me into His own image. And everything brings me back to that, as my supreme desire. I see more and more that I must be myself what I want my children to be, and that I cannot make myself over even for their sakes. This must be His work, and I wonder that it goes on so slowly; that all the disappointments, sorrows, sicknesses I have passed through, have left me still selfish, still full of imperfections!"

Stepping Heavenward

Riding in the car on our way to the pool for our first afternoon of swimming on a summer day. Snacking on chicken nuggets, full of energy from a nap… the makings for a perfect afternoon.
Then while flipping through the radio, I come across their favorite song.
And suddenly it is a perfect afternoon. Seriously, having the sweet moments of your life overlapped with music makes you feel like you're starring in your own movie. Maybe we all need to walk around with a soundtrack playing.
(I have no idea why they sing "life is a hotdog", but it's pretty cute.)

Though there may be those who don't understand, this is my favorite day of the year.
I look forward to the longest day all year long.
I just love summer evenings. Even if they mean mosquitoes and kids who are up too late because it's still light out, I love them.
We took a little time this evening to enjoy this year's longest day….

Until next year…
Be kind to thy father, for when thou wert young, who loved thee so fondly as he?
He caught the first accents that fell from thy tongue, and joined in thy innocent glee.
