Your Weekly Q & A

December 15, 2009

I just realized that I never answered last week’s questions! Sorry.

So real quick, here’s my answers:

1) My favorite Christmas album is Harry Conick Jr. And Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  And Squirrel Nut Zippers.  I’m not a huge fan of Christmas albums, but these three I have to hear every year.

2) I tell my kids that Santa is PRETEND.  I tell them it’s fun to pretend,  but I always feel the need to make sure they know that he is not real.

3) My Christmas tree is decorated with childhood ornaments from me and my husband. And the assortment of ornaments that we’ve been getting the girls each year.

4) All of my Christmas shopping is pretty much finished.  Shopping isn’t the problem…it’s finishing up the projects that I did all of the shopping for.

5) I will be so excited if we all stay healthy for Christmas.

Now on to this week’s questions….

1)My favorite show to watch late at night is ______.

I go in phases, but right now mine is Everybody Loves Raymond.

2) On Christmas morning we eat _____.

We have a tradition of cinnamon rolls and scrambled eggs.  Miss A keeps reminding me about the cinnamon rolls lately.  It’s the only time we have them all year.

3) I fill my kids stockings with _____.

As many practical yet fun items as I can find.  As little candy as possible. :)

4) My Christmas cards are_____.

Sitting on the shelf where I placed them a week ago, waiting to be addressed.

5) My favorite sweet treat this time of year is_____.

I’ve been avoiding sugar in hopes of staying healthy, but I will have to have at least one magical mint cookie. (I use mint kisses instead of plain)

Don’t keep me waiting….give me your answers. :D

Monday Night

For Today… December 14,2009

Outside my window… a sky full of bright, twinkling stars.  Just adds to the Christmas-y feel.

I am thinking… that I waste way too much time thinking about things that shouldn’t matter.

From the learning rooms…   the girls and I are doing a big unit study on The Nutcracker this week.  Very festive and so much fun.

I’m thankful for… good friends.

From the kitchen… starting to think about Christmas baking.  What’s your favorite Christmas treat?  I need some new ideas.

I am wearing… I think I may eliminate this fill in the blank.  It’s always the same.

I am reading…  started reading The Best Christmas Pagaent Ever with the two big girls today.  Sure to be entertaining.

I am creating…  I can’t even talk about it.  I’ve taken on way more projects than I should have and it is NOT GOOD.

I am hearing… Hombre’s clicking computer keys as we sit side by side in bed on our laptops. :)

Around the house… just trying to keep it from complete destruction while focusing all my efforts on finishing the Christmas projects.

A few plans for the rest of the week… I don’t want to talk about this either.  Busy every day excpet for tomorrow.  That means everything on my to-do list needs to happen tomorrow.  Yeah right! ;)

Catch-Up-Part 2

What I would have shared on Friday…had I not been so lazy:

Our Night of Sophistication

dec1309_ii

Friday night was Hombre’s staff Christmas party for his new job.

I was excited to go and meet all of the people he’s been telling me about.  But after attending a staff party with the same group of people for the last seven years, this new group was making me feel a bit intimidated.

The night that followed honestly felt like something out of a movie.  Some silly comedy with  not much of a plot, but a movie nonetheless.

We arrived to meet “sophisticated British guy” complete with accent.  That was a fun start.  Hombre couldn’t help but notice that British guy was real dressed up.

I should stop to clarify: the invitation that we recieved was printed on a full size sheet of gray cardstock, with a silly little snowman on it.  And it specified that this would be a semi-formal event.

So in our nicest jeans and sweaters, Hombre and I walked into a room full of people in gowns, not dresses, gowns, and suits!

At which point Hombre leans over and whispers “we are so under-dressed!”  Thanks for the tip dear.  I hadn’t noticed. ;)

The evening was actually a lot of fun.  People were friendly, although there were moments when I’m sure I felt some glances of pity for the poor little couple who didn’t have any nice clothes.

We had a very glamorous prime rib dinner, complete with mashed potatoes served in a champagne glass.   I’m not such a big fan of prime rib, but Hombre enjoyed it.  The best part was when we sat down to eat and both had to take a guess as to which of the three forks surrounding our plate was the proper one to use.

The clubhouse where the party was held only added to the over-the-top, we don’t fit in here feeling.

When I went to use the restroom I found not just soap and paper towels, but a drug store assortment of feminine products, mouthwash with little cups, q-tips, cotton balls, and hairspray.  This was not your average public bathroom!

As I stood there and looked in the mirror, at my cute black sweater and Old Navy jeans, all I could do was laugh.  This party was so beyond anything I’ve ever experienced it was ridiculous.  Any of our real life friends know that if you’re looking for fancy & sophisticated, we are not the people to call!

Oh well.  We had a good time.  And scored some movie passes out of the gift exchange.  And even if we were underdressed, I still think we looked good.
