Something Simple

July 17, 2009

I should be cleaning right now…

We’ve been going non-stop for three weeks straight and it is definitely obvious in my house!

But I don’t feel like cleaning ;)

My favorite thing I want to share with you today is….(drumroll)… … …handkerchiefs.

I love handkershiefs.

I’m not sure how long ago I started using them, but it kind of started as an experiment when I was trying to eliminate some of the things we spend money on and then throw away.

I just bought the plain white ones in the men’s dept.  at Wal-mart. (Be sure to watch where you are looking )

And after several months of using them I have to say, I wouldn’t be sad if I never saw a kleenex again.  I love them that much!

I could elaborate on all the reasons why, but instead I’m just going to tell you that you should try them for youself.  They’re not terribly expensive, and you might just love them as much as I do.  Just don’t call them “hankies” whatever you do.  I don’t know why, but that word really annoys me!

Now I have to show you how I’ve been trying to lure all of my family into a handkerchief obsession…

My birthday gift for all the ladies this year has been hand embroidered handkerchiefs.

I made these so far for my grandma and my aunt.  I figure maybe the prettiness will be an extra enticement.

These are some I made for my cousin.

Now I just need to make myself some pretties…I’ve just been using the boring white all this time!

So tell me, have you ever or do you now use handkerchiefs?  What do you think???? :)

A Quick Hello

July 14, 2009

We spent last week running to swim lessons, and now this week we’re on the go again with VBS, so I haven’t had much time …. (not to mention that my house is an unbearable pit at the moment)

Just wanted to share a brief word of encouragement :)

Things we think will ruin us,
if we believe what the Father tells us and surrender ourselves into His strong arms,
bring us deliverance and joy.
~Elisabeth Elliot

“Whoever loses his life for Me will find it.”

Matthew 16:25

Hope you’re all having a good week!

Sharing Saturday

It is SO HOT.  I just might die.  After twenty minutes of yard work I was blacking out….ridiculous.

Anyway, hope you’re enjoying the sunshine from a nice air conditioned place!

Fairy Tales can Come True

July 8, 2009

It’s been nine years.

It doesn’t feel like that long.  In some ways I feel like I just walked down the aisle yesterday.  I can still remember exactly how I felt.

But of course a lot of time (and events) have passed since that day.

All I can say about it is that I’m so thankful to be here, with him.  My prince!  (That’s what the girls call him:)

I got my fairy tale and I’m so blessed.

But let’s just clarify; he does drive me crazy.

Here’s my list: (using the famous and oft discouraged “always” and “never” ;)

He always leaves the light on in the closet

He always sits on the clean sheets in his dirty clothes

He always leaves crumbs all over the kitchen

He never puts his laundry in the hamper

He never wants to help with the dishes

….I think you get the idea.

He’s totally not perfect.  But then, he’s not the only one….

When I find myself starting to dwell on “the list”, I try to stop and look at the rest of the picture…all the ways I drive him crazy, all the good things he does…

and it all really boils down to one thing: He always loves me.  Always.

For better or worse (and believe me, he’s had to deal with more than his share of worse) he loves me.

He may not like me sometimes, and sometimes he may even be a little mean, but when it comes right down to it, he loves me with all he’s got.  And he’s got Jesus, so that’s some pretty amazing love :)

I’m so thankful for the last nine years.  I know even if we have ninety-nine more it won’t be enough.  You can never get enough of life with your prince!
