Okay..one total annoyance…Wordpress will not let me log in under my name?!? I don’t know what the deal is with that. But it’s still me, even though it says posted by administrator.
Anyway…trying to be a good mom/homeschooler here, and I’m TOTALLY freaking out. So I’m looking for your input…if anybody’s there
Miss A and I just started studying Spanish on a daily basis. Just general vocabulary words at this point. And I had this flashback of being like seven and watching Sesame Street, where the kids put little cards with Spanish words all over their house to help them learn.
When I was seven, I thought this was cool, and wished I could do it. And today when I remembered, I was thinking…”this would be a really great way to help Miss A remember the words”.
So we labeled our house. And Miss A was jumping for joy excited about it.
And now I’m looking around my “beautiful” home marred by index cards covered in Sharpie and wondering if I can handle it.
I don’t know if I can.
I really don’t know.
Help me! Do I get over the vanity for the sake of education, or do I sentence her to a life of having to look at “real” things on the computer instead of in her actual real world?
I need you! Tell me what to do.

I don’t know what to tell you–that’s a great way to learn the names of things though.
Maybe take pictures of the real things labeled and make a book for her? Or when she learns the name of something, take it down and add it too the book? Or just do five at a time?
Buena Suerte.

You crack me up. I like the book idea. You could let her make her own book with magazine pictures too… but I think that maybe this is a growing experience for you. Maybe you should put index cards up for yourself telling you that it’s ok.
hee hee! Well, maybe after the thrill of the Spanish cards have worn off, because that’s a whole lot of cards…You can do it mama! You’re a great teacher and I admire the wonderful sacrifices you’re making for your kids!

You can do it! We had a lot of things labeled around here in English on yellow post it notes, just trying to help Paige learn to read simple things. The labeling thing is a big help to learn, even if it looks a little silly.

Try using tags on strings – they sell them at Office Max. They’re are tan (neutral color – perfect for you), they have a string that can loop over knobs, they’re uniform in appearance (also something I suspect you would like), easily removed or changed, and you have nice handwriting.
