Unplugged Project~Cylinder

August 25, 2008

So does an “unplugged” project count if it’s based on something that is “plugged in”?

I decided I wanted to force the girls to be creative this week, so I handed them these

and asked them what we could make.

Their answer: DORA HOUSES!!!!

I’ve mentioned before the outrageous obsession with Dora in this house. And no matter how long I keep them from watching her, she never goes away.  It’s crazy.

I decided it wouldn’t be fair to shoot down their idea just because it wasn’t quite as scholarly as I was hoping for.

So we made Dora’s House, and Dora’s Tree House.  If you want to make your own all you need is construction paper and a lot of glue.

They had fun putting these together, although Miss E did require quite a bit of help.

At this moment they are still playing with their fabulous creations.  I guess that’s a good thing. :)

The houses are adorable and creative! And it’s not a bad show to be plugged into. I think Dora and Diego are great for introducing young kids to an additional language. We sometimes use YouTube videos as an additional reference for our unplugged projects, like watching a glassblower during glass week.

Those are cute! I’ve actually had a few projects that ideas came from tv shows. Everything in moderation, I say! :)

Those are really cute. I can’t stand Dora either, but I’m sure my boys would love to make a little house like this!

I love the houses! I bet they were proud of them and now they have a new toy.

Like you, I try to limit his obsession with things on TV but my little one is obsessed with Thomas Train (even though we are in a foreign country where Thomas is not to be found!)

ah Dora…whats a parent to do. Can’t say I am a fan…but my little one squeals every time she sees one.

These little houses are adorable!! And hey, they hopefully got their fill without the TV on.

It’s hard to get away from the plugged in celebrities isn’t it! My daughter loves Dora as well, but has only seen a couple of episodes. There’s lots of books and paraphenelia out there to keep her interest up. I think your girls did a great job decorating and will have fun playing with them (and that won’t be plugged in time).
