Is this a problem?

July 10, 2008

We have a really big obsession going on in our house.  It’s come and gone in phases over the last six years, but right now it is going FULL FORCE.  And it’s taken over our living room.

Dora's house

Welcome to to Dora’s house.  In it you will find Miss A and Miss E (Miss I is busy in the kitchen drinking from her Dora cup).  They are fabulously attired in….

Dorawear

their Dora nightgowns.  Aren’t they great?  All shimmery and everything. It’s so awesome to be hanging out with Dora.

just chillin'

What do we do when we hang out with Dora?

dora tv

Watch Dora of course.  And we must have our best pal right there at all times.

buena muchacha

Isn’t Dora just the coolest girl you’ve ever known?

And the best part….it doesn’t end at bedtime.  No way!

The next morning we can start our day with….

dora 24/7

a thrilling game of Dora memory.  Isn’t that the best!

Seriously, I have to love Dora, because if I didn’t I would kill myself.  These little girls would choose Dora over mommy any day.  Poor Miss I has even started saying “dora”…you know it’s bad when she only has about five words and that’s one of them.

So I just have to focus on the positive aspects of Dora.

1. Excellent exposure to spanish; very handy with all of our neighbors.

2. I will take a Dora obsession ANY DAY over .02 seconds of Hannah Montana.

3. Dora helps me remember…….
when Miss A was two and not yet talking, like not a single word, she loved Dora.  And I remember watching it with her (because that’s what you do when you only have one child, you watch their shows with them) and I would try SO HARD to get her to respond in some way, any way to one of Dora’s little interactive questions.  But of course, nothing.

Fast forward four years, and you have last night, when Dora cheerfully asks, while bobbing that giant head of hers “What was your favorite part?”.  And I hear Miss A from inside the tent…”My favorite part was finding the birds on enchanted mountain!”

And I have to pause, and be thankful for Dora, for reminding me how far we’ve come.

    Great post!

I so know what you mean about a Dora addiction – and Diego! :) But, if it gets us through the day, then hey, we’re going with it.

Can’t wait to poke around some more!

    *shudder* …Dora…
Would you like to borrow our Thomas the Tank Engine tent? It’s all the rage over in these parts…AND it comes with a handy (and ridiculously heavy) book; that feels great dropped on your foot from a distance of about 3 feet… ;)
